The University of Miami men’s basketball program got big news on Thursday morning. Very big news. Four-star center Ben Ahmed337jili, listed at 6-9 and 300 pounds, committed to the Hurricanes over other finalists Cincinnati and Xavier.
Ahmed, a native of Nigeria who has been at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut the past two and a half years, announced his decision on 247Sports’ YouTube channel.
He is rated the No. 11 center in the Class of 2025, according to 247 and the 78th player overall.
Asked why he chose Miami, Ahmed said: “Just the relationship I had with the coaches on that visit. I had a great relationship with the head coach, coach L (Jim Larrañaga), coach Bill (Courtney), the whole coaching staff, even the players. It just felt like I’ve been there for a year or two.”
Ahmed is the second member of the UM 2025 class, joining four-star Sagemont Prep guard Matthew Able. The Hurricanes’ coaching staff is awaiting word from Miami Columbus High twins Cameron and Cayden Boozer, sons of former NBA star Carlos Boozer, who have narrowed their choices to UM and Duke and are expected to announce their decision soon.
Ahmed said he brings versatility and spirit to the Hurricanes.
“[Miami is getting] a player that can score in the post, a great rebounder and a great teammate, too, always try to bring positive energy during practice and during the games, too.”
